Bahrain 22K: BHD 28.95 per gram. Check the Bahrain gold rate today.

Dubai 22K: AED 275.50 per gram.

Convert AED to BHD. 1 BHD = 9.76 AED right now.

Dubai 22K in BHD = 275.50 / 9.76 = BHD 28.22 per gram.

Difference: Dubai cheaper by BHD 0.73 per gram.

Bahrain 24K: BHD 31.50/g

Dubai 24K: AED 299.75/g = BHD 30.71/g

Difference: Dubai cheaper by BHD 0.79 per gram.

But wait. That’s just the “board rate.” No one pays the board rate. You pay + making charges + VAT + flight. Let’s talk real.

GCC Check: Oman gold rate today, 22K OMR 29.10 = BHD 29.10. Bahrain is cheaper than Oman. Qatar gold rate 22K QAR 274.00 = BHD 28.18. Almost same as Dubai. Kuwait gold rate 22K KWD 24.85 = BHD 30.50. Kuwait is the most expensive in the GCC.

Why Is Dubai Gold Cheaper Than Bahrain? 3 Real Reasons

  1. No import duty on gold in the UAE. Bahrain also has 0% duty. Draw.
  2. Dubai Gold Souq competition insane. 400+ shops in Deira. They cut the gold rate to BHD 0.50-0.80/g just to get you inside. Bahrain’s Manama Souq has 60 shops. Less price war.
  3. UAE Dirham pegged low. AED 3.67 = 1 USD. BHD 0.376 = 1 USD. Exchange rate math makes Dubai look cheaper when gold priced in USD globally.

But Bahrain wins on VAT. The UAE charges 5% VAT on making charges. Bahrain has 0% VAT on gold bars/coins and 10% VAT on jewelry making only if you’re not a GCC national. Confusing? Yeah. Read next section.

Board rate difference: BHD 0.73/g. You think, “I buy 100g, I save BHD 73. Flight ticket BHD 45, still profit BHD 28!”

Wrong. Making charges eat that.

Dubai Deira Shops – June 2026: What I paid:

  • Simple 22K chain: AED 25/g, making BHD 2.56/g
  • Bangles with design: AED 35-50/g = BHD 3.58-5.12/g
  • Bridal set: AED 60-80/g = BHD 6.14-8.19/g
  • Plus 5% VAT on making. So AED 50/g making becomes AED 52.5/g = BHD 5.38/g

Bahrain, Manama Souq – Same week:

  • Simple 22K chain: BHD 2.00-2.50/g. No VAT if you’re Bahraini/GCC.
  • Bangles with design: BHD 3.00-4.50/g
  • Bridal set: BHD 5.50-7.00/g
  • VAT: 0% on bars. 10% on jewelry making IF you’re a non-GCC tourist. But if you show CPR, most shops skip it or “adjust” the bill.

Real example: I bought an 80g bridal set.

Dubai: 80g x 28.22 rate = BHD 2,257.60. Making 80 x 6.14 = BHD 491.20. VAT on making is BHD 24.56. Total BHD 2,773.36

Bahrain: 80g x 28.95 = BHD 2,316. Making 80 x 5.50 = BHD 440. No VAT. Total BHD 2,756

Bahrain is cheaper by BHD 17.36 on the bridal set, even though the Dubai rate is lower. Why? Making charges + VAT.

If you buy plain bars/coins, Dubai wins. No making, no VAT. 100g 24K bar Dubai = BHD 3,071. Bahrain = BHD 3,150. Dubai saves BHD 79. But then flight…

Hidden Costs: Flight, Hotel, Customs—Dubai “Savings” Disappear Fast

  1. Flight Manama-Dubai-Manama: Gulf Air is cheapest at BHD 45-65 return if you book 3 weeks ahead. Last minute? BHD 110.
  2. Taxi Dubai: Airport to Deira BHD 8. Deira to hotel BHD 5. Back BHD 8. Total BHD 21.00.
  3. Food/Hotel: Even if it’s a 1-day trip, you’ll eat. Shawarma BHD 3, karak BHD 1. Hotel if overnight: BHD 40.
  4. Bahrain Customs: Bring over BHD 6,000 gold? Must declare. Bahrain customs gold rules say 122g 22K limit. Dubai trip, you’ll likely cross. Declaration-free but time-wasting. No declaration? Fine BHD 500+.

Break-even math: Dubai saves BHD 0.73/g. Flight + taxi = BHD 66 minimum.

BHD 66 / 0.73 = 90 grams. You need to buy 90g+ just to cover trip costs. Under 90g? Bahrain is cheaper.

My uncle’s 180g trip: Saved BHD 131 on rate. Spent BHD 45 flight + BHD 21 taxi + BHD 12 food = BHD 78. Net save BHD 53. Not BHD 200 like he claimed.

When Dubai Gold Is Actually Cheaper Than Bahrain

Customs Rules: Bringing Gold from Dubai to Bahrain 2026

Don’t get fined at Bahrain Airport like my cousin.

Rule: If gold + cash + watches > BHD 6,000, declare at Red Channel. Free, 5 min.

BHD 6,000 = ~190g 24K or ~207g 22K.

Dubai to Bahrain: Many people cross this. Declare. No duty. No VAT. Just paper.

No declaration? Fine up to BHD 1,000 + gold seized till you prove purchase. I saw a Pakistani guy in May—250g from Dubai, undeclared. Customs took it and gave me paper. He flew back to Dubai the next day for the invoice.

  5. You need a gold loan later: Buy Bahrain. A gold loan in Bahrain needs a local invoice for the best LTV. Dubai bill = 5% less loan.
